Ayurvedic Approach to Treatment

In the books of Ayurveda, the human immune system is called as ‘Ojas’. When the level of Ojas goes down, the human body becomes vulnerable to the attack of viruses, bacteria or parasites. In Ayurveda, The first line of approach would be to analyse the body to check for any irregularities in metabolism or hormonal imbalances to identify the root cause for the disease. The next stage would be cleansing the body by flushing out any impurities or toxins. This Detox procedure and treatment may include therapies and herbal applications along with some herbal intakes, which could boost the overall immunity of the body and cure the health condition.

Ayurvedic Approach to TreatmentThe purpose of most of the Ayurvedic treatments is not just to cure the specific disease, but also to naturally improve the oxygenation of the cells and tissues thereby, boosting the overall immune system and health. These treatments could help the body to unblock the energy pathways by stimulating the energy points or vital points.

Types of Ayurvedic Treatment

Ayurvedic treatment can be broadly categorised into two:

    • Sodhana Chikilsa (Cleansing Therapy)
    • Shamana Chikilsa (Alleviating Therapy)

Sodhana Chikilsa (Cleansing Therapy)

Sodhana Chikilsa involves the elimination of toxic by-products produced and impurities accumulated in the body through various therapeutic procedures. Pancha-Karma treatment involves five procedures that help to restore the natural balance of the human body by cleansing or purification.

1. Vamana (Emesis Therapy)
The administration of herbal medicines internally to induce vomiting

2. Virechana (Purgation Therapy)
The administration of herbal medicines internally to induce purgation

3. Nasyam (Nasal Medication)
The administration of herbal medicines in the form of oil or powder through the nostrils

4.Vasthy (Medicated Enema Therapy)
The administration of herbal medicines in the form of decoction or oil through the anus.

5.Rakthamoksham (Blood-letting therapy)
Draining out of impure blood from the body through procedures like needle-pricking, venesection, leaching etc.

Shamana Chikilsa

Shamana Chikilsa/therapy is carried out after the purification procedure in the Sodhana Chikilsa and involves the application of herbal medicines, both externally and internally to restore the natural balance. Shamana Chikilsa is also ideal for general body & health care.
