Causes of Hair Fall / Hair Loss
If you think there is only one reason for hair fall, well then we have got news for you. There are more than 15 reasons for hair fall.
8 common ones are:
1. Genetics
The genetic code determines a person’s hair growth cycle. Slower the hair growth cycle, more tendency of hair fall, and less hair on the scalp. In Ayurveda, this is understood by evaluation by assessing your prakruti, and providing measures to keep your scalp healthy and hair lustrous.
2. Aging
With age, the hair growth cycle becomes slower. The hair follicle becomes damaged, thinner, and eventually falls. By taking preventive measures like Rasayana chikitsa and other panchakarma therapies, it can be prevented, slowed down, and even reversed in most people.
3.Inadequate nutrition
Deficiencies of proteins, minerals like iron, copper, zinc, and vitamin D can lead to hair fall. But consuming them just in the form of supplements is not very beneficial to you. These essential elements need to be chosen based on their medium and method of preparation, and dosage forms that will suit your particular need.
For example, taking the Ayurvedic churnas and tables with milk or buttermilk or lemon juice according to your prakruti and cause of hair fall is important. Some might require the medicines to be administered in a lipid medium like medicated ghee. This can be decided when you have a consultation with your Ayurveda doctor.
4. Hormonal imbalances
Both gender experience hair falls when they develop thyroid dysfunction. Women nearing pre-menopause, or who are pregnant have a higher chance of hair fall due to natural fluctuations in the hormonal levels in their body.
5. Unhealthy lifestyle
Too much stress, being active late at night, improper sleep, take away foods, preserved and aerated foods, inadequate exposure to sunlight, and even excessive exercise can cause hair fall.
6. Certain medicines
Antibiotics, anti-depressants, retinol, drugs that suppress the immune system are a few of many that cause hair fall. Women consuming birth control pills also experience hair fall.
7. Hair products
Hair shampoos, gels, dyeing, and styling products contain harsh chemicals that affect the health of hair strands and the root. Products contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) affect the hair roots and the immune system. This hampers the scalp integrity and growth of new hair follicles.
